Rarely in the heavily saturated superyacht charter market do we find ourselves truly astounded. Yes, every yacht can be considered spectacular in some way – be it from having a heavily stocked toy cupboard to a 10-man Jacuzzi – but then there are those yachts that rise above the rest.
At 136m in length the pedigree of FLYING FOX is just the start of what makes this one of the finest charter yachts on the market to date; from the pens of Espen Oino and Mark Berryman, and crafted by the masters at the Lürssen yard, FLYING FOX is the 14th largest yacht in the world at 9,100 GT. With such a vast volume this allowed both Berryman and Oino ample opportunity to really create something special; the 12m swimming pool – sat transversely across the Main Deck – being just the tip of the iceberg.
Named after one of the largest species of bat, the elegance of flight is echoed in her smooth exterior curves, as well as the exotic woods used in her interior, reminiscent of the fox’s natural habitat. It is not difficult to wax lyrical about the exquisite high-spec interiors that we have become used to in this market, but what is truly impressive are the amenities on board, run by an exceptionally trained crew – including former Olympic athletes – of 54.
Nothing short of a floating paradisiacal island, the two-storey spa is an absolute showstopper. Spread over 400sqm it is so highly opulent that it puts other yacht spas to shame; the lower deck features a Sea Lounge and Jacuzzi that leads through to the Dive Centre as well as the Hammam, Sauna and Cryo Sauna. The Bridge Deck features the Beauty Centre and Massage rooms, including a gym and specialist personal trainers. The Cinema room and al fresco cinema – both with state-of-the-art surround sound – must also have an honorable mention.
Aside from FLYING FOX providing lovers of the sea with a multitude of panoramic sea views – also within each private suite – the yacht really does cater for those with a taste for luxury and for those who seek absolute relaxation. The beauty is in the fine detail; living plants and trees delicately compliment the natural materials throughout the interior, while the 10 VIP en-suite cabins are a sight to behold. The Owner’s area, on the other hand, is a masterpiece of elegance.
The Master Stateroom – featuring an en-suite, private office, dressing rooms and His/Hers bathrooms – has its own private salon with trees, a wood fireplace, and a large bay window opening up to a private Jacuzzi with it’s own Beauty Centre.
FLYING FOX, under the auspices of Imperial who acted as build agent, and now central agent, is at the very forefront of luxury in the charter market. As Stewart says, “Imperial has always been at the cutting edge of the superyacht industry, and together with FLYING FOX we open today a new era of high-end luxury charter service.”
